Thyme in a Bottle
Thursday, June 26th, 2008So tonight as I was frantically cooking dinner on the fly, I noticed the seasoning that my recipe called for was ‘thyme’. No prob, I thought, “I have plenty of thyme. I just put some into my spaghetti sauce Monday.” But when it came time for me to add the seasoning to my chicken stew, I opened the cupboard and found no thyme there. So I began agitatedly searching for my thyme, looking anywhere I thought it could be. At one point, I thought my brother or sister-in-law might have stolen my thyme, playing a joke on me. But I realized they hadn’t been here on Monday or any other day since, so I kept digging through the cupboards and drawers, looking for my thyme. My thyme was not up, and my thyme was not down. My husband came in from outside, hearing me huffing and puffing about my thyme, asking me what was up. I told him I lost my thyme. He assured me, he hadn’t taken my thyme, and suggested a few places I might look for it, and also wondered if I had used up all my thyme, or thrown my thyme away. At this point, my chicken stew had spent plenty of time on the stove, and was beyond the point where any thyme would be useful, so I gave up and used a different seasoning. Where did the thyme go? Apparently, I have no more thyme.
